| Holiday cottages are an increasingly popular and

self-employed status which allows you to deduct motoring expenses, computer
equipment and much more from your taxable profits each year. More significant
is the Capital Gains Tax (CGT) business taper, which holiday cottages also
qualify for. This means that your CGT liability decreases from a possible
maximum of 40% to a mere 10% after just 2 years of trading. The demand for self-catering holidays is beginning to outstrip supply, many properties are already taking bookings for 2005! The internet is the perfect tool for marketing holidays, being global, 24/7 and usually up-to-the-minute. If you have a lump-sum to invest, or are thinking of borrowing, there has never been a better time. Interest rates are still low and are set to stabilise at least for the next few terms of government (10 yrs ?). Running a holiday let business is far less time consuming than say a B&B or hotel, changeovers are usually once a week, and most of the work can if required be put out to contractors with the owner playing only a supervisory role. |
